Electrical Transformers Engineering

Electrical transformers are among the most crucial components of the electrical power infrastructure that help facilitate the smooth transmission and distribution of electrical energy. The fundamental understanding of electrical transformer engineering involves knowing how they function, the purpose they serve, and their crucial role in our daily lives. Electrical transformers are in a nutshell, electromagnetic devices that transfer electrical energy from one circuit to another, altering the voltage levels in the process.   In the simplest terms, a transformer works on the principle of electromagnetic induction. There are two circuits in a transformer: the primary and secondary. When the primary circuit receives alternating current, it produces a fluctuating magnetic field around it. This varying magnetic field then induces a current in the secondary circuit. By varying the number of turns in these circuits, the transformer changes the voltage level between circuits. One ...

Why does a capacitor block DC but allows AC?

Image
A capacitor, a vital component in electronics, exhibits an interesting behavior: it allows the flow of Alternating Current (AC) but blocks Direct Current (DC). The primary reason lies in its basic AAAA AA AA  function. A capacitor is designed to store energy in an electric field between two plates separated by an insulator, known as a dielectric.  When DC is applied, the capacitor charges up to the maximum voltage, effectively AAAAAA AAAAA  blocking current flow once it's fully charged. Hence, it's as if the DC is blocked. Conversely, when AC is applied, the polarity of the voltage changes continually, never AAAAA AAAA  allowing the capacitor to be fully charged or discharged. Consequently, a current, albeit small, can always flow, essentially passing the AC through.  AAAAAA AAAAAA In short, this unique capability of a capacitor to block DC and pass AC arises from the alternating nature of AC signals and the capacitors' energy storage functionality, and i...
